The Minister of State, (Science and Technology) the Honorable Gary Goodyear, declared that an amount of $4million would be given to support the cold climate heat pump development project by Ecologix Heating Technologies from the Clean Energy Fund.
This funding is one of the Government’s initiatives to support high quality jobs and to improve the environmental and economic performance. He mentioned that the clean energy technology encourages the domestic industry growth while creating jobs for Canadians.
Ecologix along with their partners have created a heat pump system that would heat homes and efficiently work in most climatic conditions in Canada and has the potential for reducing gas emissions by one million tons by 2020. Ecologix’s President, Stephen Davies commented that they were grateful for the support given by their partners and the Clean Energy Fund. It was just the right time for developing a cost-effective substitute to space and water heating by fossil fuels.
The Canadian Government had invested a huge amount of $10 billion for the reduction of greenhouse gases and construction of a sustainable environment via energy efficiency, green infrastructure, clean energy and fuel production and clean energy technologies from 2006 onwards. It has developed a wide range of programs and policies for reducing the emissions by 17% from the 2005 levels by the year 2020. This target is in line with that of the US. Minister Goodyear has stated that such investments in clean tech would help them reach their targets and also protect the environment while satisfying the energy requirements. Eligibility for the accelerated capital cost allowance for machinery that would either produce or conserve energy by making use of renewable sources of energy or using fossil fuels more efficiently has been expanded and this has been announced in the Budget 2010.
