Spire, a well known solar company that provides turnkey manufacturing lines and capital equipment for the production of PV modules, has revealed that it has provided Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy from Bangladesh, a solar module manufacturing line with systems technology.
According to Roger G. Little, the CEO and Chairman of Spire, a total 65% of the people remain unconnected to the national grid in Bangladesh, as electricity is both scarce and expensive. Hence, there is a huge potential for the solar market to flourish. He further mentioned that Spire was supplying Rahimafrooz with a superior module manufacturing line that had the capacity to assemble 20 MW of solar modules annually. It is also giving Rahimafrooz a PV system manufacturing and design technology, which would aid in providing systems and modules for electricity generation in rural areas.
Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy, which is a division of the Rahimafrooz Group, has to its credit the installation of PV modules on over 100,000 houses directly and has provided solar energy to 600,000 homes from 2003 onwards in Bangladesh. It is also capable of providing solar hybrid solutions for solar power irrigation systems and Telecom Operators BTM. The company has been awarded the Ashden Performance Award in 2006 and also in 2004, the Platts Global Energy Awards.
