Fife Council has provided conditional approval for the Renewables Innovation Centre project at Methil docks. The project will be located adjacent to the Hydrogen Office. The European Union has partly financed this project under the European Regional Development Fund.
The renewable energy centre will provide shared research facilities and incubator units for the new entrants in renewable energy. The £3 million project will create around 90 jobs now, which is expected to go up to 1000 green jobs in 10 years in the Methil dock area.
The Fife Renewables Innovation Centre will be built using low-energy fittings, and having natural ventilation, air tightness and thermal insulation. It will house meeting rooms, break-out spaces and flexible offices. The £4.7 million Hydrogen Office will supply power from its wind turbine.
The attractive, advanced facilities and the support provided by the Scottish Government is expected to attract companies to Methil docks, making it a centre for renewable energy. The old Methil Power Station will also be brought down to facilitate development.
