Monroe County officials recently unveiled a solar panel installation at the Rochester International Airport in New York, as part of their green initiatives. Two 50,000 watt photovoltaic arrays were installed on the roof-top of the airport’s terminal building.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority provided grants for the project along with renewal and replacement funds from the Rochester International airport authority. No funds were obtained from Monroe County or its local property taxpayers.
The Rochester International Airport solar power project is estimated to save around $642,000 over 25 years, and also reduce dependency on nonrenewable sources of energy.
