Delabole Wind Farm to Double Generation Capacity after Revamp Operations

Good Energy, an energy supplier that produces electricity from renewable sources, has contributed a sum of £11.8 million for carrying out revamp operations at Britain's first commercial wind farm, Delabole.

This UK electricity company has supplied 100% renewable electricity to keep turbines running at Delabole since 2002.

Following the multimillion-pound revamping operations, the potential output of operations is expected to double. 20 years after the Delabole wind farm began operations, it will be relaunched by Energy Secretary Chris Huhne.

Already 10 turbines, each with a height of 164ft, are operating in Cornwall. The wind farm, situated at a remote site near Wadebridge in Cornwall, started functioning back in 1991.

With the addition of four more powerful turbines, the wind farm is expected to harness a total potential output of over 9.2 megawatts that will meet the energy requirements of 7,000 homes.

Mr Huhne stated that the revamp will help the wind farm to remain at the forefront of best practices.

Juliet Davenport, Chief executive of Good Energy stated that Delabole supplies 20% of its total production and stands first in priority when compared to all other projects.
