Geothermal Pilot Project Planned by GTherm and ICE

Discussions are being held at present between the US Company, GTherm and the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) for utilizing the GTherm technology in a 12 MW Geothermal Pilot project.

Traditional geothermal plants generally have one major snag i.e. requirement of huge quantities of water for successful operation. GTherm on the other hand has developed a new system known as the Single-Well Engineered Geothermal System also known as SWEGS, which is a close circuit system with a very low water requirement.

At present Costa Rica has a total of five geothermal units that produce 165.5 MW of electricity at the Miravalles geothermal resource. This represents 13% of the total installed capacity in Costa Rica. More attention is being paid on the development of geothermal resources so that more and more clean energy can be added to the electric grid.

GTherm is totally committed to furthering the cause of geothermal technology so that the earth’s energy could be efficiently harvested, while reducing the overall costs and also reduce the time required for the installation of power plants with minimal environmental impacts.
