Wind Energy Park to be Built by Ikea in Sweden

IKEA Group, which is the world’s premier home furnishings retailer, is planning to construct a wind park in the Central Province of Dalarna in Sweden, which would help in satisfying the electricity requirements of the group’s 17 stores located in the Nordic country.

This initiative is mainly to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The wind park would contain nine turbines and would be constructed by O2 Vind , a wind developer based in Stockholm. The production is expected to commence by the beginning of 2012.

Peter Agnefjaell, who is the head of Ikea Svenska Foersaeljnings, disclosed that a long term renewable energy resource is being created in Sweden with this park. Their customers would also be benefited, as the financial benefits gained from electricity generation would be passed on to them via lower prices.

Ikea in Germany and France have a total of 52 wind turbines from which a total of 10% electricity is being generated. According to Ylva Magnusson, a spokeswoman for the Ikea group, this idea may also be taken to other markets. She further revealed that in Sweden, several hundred million kronors have  been invested in this wind energy park. A spokeswoman from O2 revealed that the output from these turbines would be 70 GW annually.
