Canadian Solar in association with Energy Resources has supplied solar modules for the construction of SolarLAB2, an open-air type of solar lab designed to examine the integration of photovoltaic know-how for prefabricated roofing.
Baraclit, a company engaged in supplying prefabricated roofing to industrial and commercial establishments has constructed the SolarLAB2 at its headquarters located in Bibbiena close to Arezzo. The installation is considered to be one among the biggest and novel roof-integrated photovoltaic facilities in Italy.
The solar laboratory constructed under the b.POWER division of Baraclit is separated into four sections with a peak level production capability of 2.5 MWp and will generate 2,900,000 kWh of clean power every year. A total number of around 11,000 Canadian Solar PV panels are placed to cover an area of around 17,000 sq.m surface area out of the total 31,700 sq.m roof area. Roughly 58% of the modules utilized in the installation are manufactured with polycrystalline cells and the other 42% modules incorporate monocrystalline cells. The Canadian Solar modules utilized in the installation have received PVUSA rating (PTC) in California for their performance.
As per the requirements of Baraclit b.POWER and Energy Resources, and in order to achieve regular elevated exposure to the rays of the sun the solar modules were installed over the shed roofing and flat roofing by orienting 12° in the south west direction with varying pitch levels between 10° to 35° .
