South Jersey Healthcare-Elmer Hospital has unveiled its plans to build a 2 MW solar power generating facility over 10-acre land site located at the back of the hospital.
The proposed solar farm will be located in Elmer and Upper Pittsgrove Township and has received the necessary approval from the administrative officials of Upper Pittsgrove and Elmer.
The proposed ground-located solar photovoltaic system will incorporate around 500 to 600 solar panels and will generate enough electricity to cover nearly 90% of the power requirement of the hospital. The prepared and sanctioned blueprint also includes fencing and landscaping around the solar farm, which will act as an extra coverage to prevent theft. The healthcare has chartered the services of Salmon Ventures, a company engaged in providing consulting services as advisor for the proposed project. The healthcare is coordinating with the engineers of Atlantic City Electric to ascertain the most viable method to distribute the power generated from the panels to the hospital.
The net-metered type of solar installation proposed for the project will connect the power generated from the solar panels right away to the power system of the hospital. Such a facility will enable the hospital to deposit its excess power generation and earn credits for future requirement. The project is designed to assist the hospital to lessen its carbon footprint. The solar installation when completed will allow the hospital to reduce nearly 4,454,942 pounds CO2 emissions, 24,342 pounds sulfur dioxide, 8,007 pounds nitrogen dioxide and nearly 4,669 barrels of oil.
