Recently people from different walks of life have called on the city leaders of Los Angeles to support an inventive solar energy program suggested for the region.
The CLEAN (Clean Local Energy Accessible Now) LA proposal led by the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) is supported by diverse organizations such as the Sierra Club, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the American Lung Association in California and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters.
The CLEAN LA proposal, first of its kind in the USA, will authorize the residents and businesses in Los Angeles to erect solar panels over their rooftops and trade the generated power with the local utility company. The proposal also known as the feed-in-tariff program is anticipated to generate around $500 million in the form of local investment and introduce nearly 900 lucrative jobs in the clean energy sector during the next five years by impacting the rate payers negligibly.
In the preceding two years, LABC has involved the researchers from UCLA and worked along with them to formulate an efficient and successful solar program model. Currently, the CLEAN LA group is requesting the business community and the home owners of LA to support the five year, 150 MW FiT program that commences from July and avail benefits up to $300 million in the form of federal tax credits for installing the solar panels. LABC ultimately is looking forward to achieving a target of 600 MW by the year 2020.
