Chevron Energy Solutions along with Morgan Hill Unified School District have declared that they have completed a 2.1 MW solar project, which would help in solar education and create energy savings of over $8 million for the District.
This project would take care of almost 80% of the two high schools’ energy needs. It would reduce the acquisition of utility power and thus decrease carbon emissions by almost 1900 metric tons. The Superintendent of Morgan Hill Unified School District, Dr. Wesley Smith has stated that their goal was to give their students a healthy, safe and sustainable environment, where they could learn and be successful. This program would help their students to learn about solar energy and its uses and save money at the same time.
Chevron Energy has designed and constructed the solar system, and would also take care of its operation, maintenance for the district. Being one of the foremost solar power installers it has developed several projects that enhance energy efficiency and provide clean renewable energy for government, education and business buildings. Chevron’s President, Jim Davis has commented that the Morgan Hill Unified School District is a well known leading and visionary District with their solar programs for energy cost- savings. The total cost for the project was financed by the Qualified School Construction Bonds, which were obtained by a lottery. Further, a rebate from the California Solar Initiative would also contribute to the savings spawned by the solar program. Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill would conduct an event for celebrating the completion of the solar project, wherein business officials, government officers, district representatives and students would attend.
