Carmarthenshire Council Approves Two Solar Farms

Solar power production applications for two locations in Carmarthenshire have received the approval of the council. The Councilors have given their consent for the planning proposals.

The solar installations will have around 10,000 solar panels installed at both the locations. The power produced from the solar development over the Ffos Las horse racing course and the former Cynheidre Colliery close to Five Roads can generate enough clean power to supply 1,000 homes. The power generated from the solar installations will be connected to the National Power Grid. According to Entec, who is acting as the developer’s agent, the Carmarthenshire sites had been selected for the solar power production potential and well guarded location.

Currently, the UK government is encouraging solar installations and their connectivity to the local power grids by paying a guaranteed subsidy for a period of 25 years. According to Chris Huhne, Energy Secretary, increasing number of bigger sized solar farms are availing the cash subsidy currently available for the small business and home solar installers.
