Ideal Power Converters (IPC) has unveiled the prototype of its 30kW PV inverter. The commercial-scale inverter has a lightweight design with a weight of less than 100lbs.
IPC had performed a successful pilot test of the PV inverter that works on its patented current-modulation electronic power converter technology. IPC’s inverter delivers 30kW power in 3-phase 480VAC output voltage, and supports standard grounded PV arrays. Though smaller and lighter in magnitude, it delivers equivalent power as the other conventional inverters.
The inverter’s lightweight design simplifies rooftop PV installations in places with structural support and spatial constraints. Shipping, installation costs are also reduced by 80%. IPC’s new patented control methodology has led to drastic reduction in the cost of materials, shipping, installation and manufacturing of the inverter along with improved reliability and better efficiency.
IPC’s PV inverter prototype was on display at the 2011 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit in Washington DC. IPC intends to manufacture its PV inverters in the US.
