REC Solar, San Luis Obispo, California-based solar systems designing and installing company, and City of Hayward, have declared the conclusion of a 1 MW solar power system for the Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) of the City of Hayward.
The project has received around $2.5 million as low interest loan from the California Energy Commission. Over the next five years the installation will receive $2.6 million as California Solar Initiative (CSI) rebates through PG&E.
The solar installation completed by REC Solar incorporates around 5,152 REC Group supplied REC 225PE solar panels installed over 101 rows of ground mounted single-axis solar trackers. The installation covering an area of around eight acres of land inside the WPCF premises will produce around 1.95 megawatt hours of electricity every year to meet nearly 24% power requirement of Hayward WPCF.
The electricity generated from the facility is enough to supply to over 153 average homes in the USA. The clean energy generated by the system will counterbalance over 24 million pounds of carbon dioxide discharges in the first 25 years of functioning, which can be equated to keeping approximately 183 cars off the roads every year.
