BlueChip Energy (BCE), providing total solar energy solutions for government, commercial, residential and utility users, declared that it has contracted an accord to purchase land in Central Florida.
The land will be utilized by the company for developing a 40 MW solar energy farm at an estimated cost of around $200 million.
The proposed Sorrento Solar Farm will be located over 140 acres of open land in Lake County, Florida. The ground mounted solar farm will incorporate around 140,000 solar panels and will be constructed in stages. Advanced Solar Photonics (ASP), an auxiliary of BCE and a manufacturing company, will provide 75% of the solar panels and solar racking systems required for the project. The other 25% requirement of the panels and racking systems will be supplied by the other equity partners. The proposed solar farm is located 50 miles northwest of Orlando and remains close to two utility substations.
When completed, the Sorrento Solar Farm will remain the biggest solar plant in Florida State and will become the third largest in the USA. The solar farm will produce around 64 million kWh of electricity every year to meet the power requirement of 8,000 homes in Florida. The power generated from the solar farm will be traded with local utility companies under power purchase agreements. The project is anticipated to bring around 150 construction job positions in the state of Florida.
