EDF EN Canada, an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company, has contracted two power purchase agreements (PPA) each for a period of 20 years with Hydro-Québec.
The agreements are signed for two community wind energy projects with a total power production capability of 49.2 MW.
EDF EN Canada has associated with MRC de la Mitis and MRC du Granit for developing the two projects each with a capability to generate 24.6 MW power. The projects will incorporate Repower’s 2.05 MW turbine. Earlier, Hydro-Québec had called for tenders for the two projects in 2009, and finalized the names for executing the projects in December 2010.
According to André St-Marseille, Énergie du Granit’s President, wind energy will bring cheers to the logging and production industries in the region. The project in addition to generating revenue for the county will also create job opportunities.
The signed PPAs are to be approved by the Quebec Energy Board. The project will commence the constructions on receiving municipal and government permissions, and approvals and clearance from the environmental authorities.
