SunDurance Energy to Install Solar Systems for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

SunDurance Energy declared that it has won a project to design and build a 300 kW solar PV power production system for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The project will receive a part of the funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the remainder from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

SunDurance Energy was selected for the project after a competitive bid procedure conducted in three steps. The solar panels will be installed over an elevated structure of a parking lot with a space for parking 160 cars. The 1,275 solar panels will be placed over the elevated structures present in the parking slots to generate around 400,000 kWh of clean electricity annually. The power generated from the installation can be equated to the removal of around 55 cars off the road or the carbon dioxide absorbed by over 62 acres of pine forests every year.

The construction of the solar facility is anticipated to commence in April and is projected to get completed by August 2011, prior to the commencement of the Solar Power International Conference and Tradeshow in October in Dallas.
