BlueChip Energy Develops 40 MW Solar Facility in Florida

Solar energy supplier, BlueChip Energy declared that it has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Progress Energy Florida to supply power from its 40 MW Sorrento Eagle Dunes Solar Farm currently under development in Central Florida.

The ground mount solar farm will span around 140 acres of land. The company is planning to build the solar facility in stages and the first phase will commence in 2012 and will have a capability to generate 10 MW of power. The solar farm will incorporate around 174,000 polycrystalline and mono-crystalline solar PV panels supplied by Advanced Solar Photonics. BCE will utilize its own project team for development, procurement, engineering and building services. The project has already completed the essential drainage, geo-technical and ecological studies. BCE is presently applying for the required zoning permissions for the land.

The 40 MW solar power project when completed will produce over 64,000,000 kWh of clean energy every year and will supply enough power to meet the energy requirements of around 8,000 homes. The power generated from the facility will offset more than 25,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions every year.
