GDF SUEZ Energy Resources to Donate Renewable Energy Certificates to Philadelphia Zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo has declared that GDF SUEZ Energy Resources will provide its electricity for a period of two years. Initially, 25% of the zoo’s power usage will be compensated by renewable energy certificates (RECs).

GDF SUEZ Energy Resources will donate the Green-e Energy Certified RECs, which symbolize ecological properties of electricity produced from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and others, to the Philadelphia Zoo. The certificates are expected to offset nearly 3,195,990 pounds of carbon discharge every year which can be equated to removing 314 cars from the road.

By utilizing the certificates, the zoo will contribute in reducing greenhouse gas discharges and support the development of domestic resources of renewable, clean energy.

GDF SUEZ Energy Resources is the retail energy arm of GDF SUEZ Energy North America.
