AUO Crystal (ACC), a subsidiary of AU Optronics (AUO), has performed the groundbreaking for the first-stage construction of its solar-grade monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers production facility at Houli in Central Taiwan Science Park, Taiwan.
This production facility will be the third factory owned by the company in Taiwan with two other factories also located in the Science Park.
The proposed third factory will be set up over a land site measuring 2 hectares and will produce 250 MWp every year. A vacant land measuring 6.5 hectares is set aside for future growth of the factory to produce 1GWp annually. The factory will provide employment opportunities to around 1,200 persons in a period of three years.
AUO Crystal’s first factory, present in the same location, has the facility to slice solar-grade polycrystalline silicon ingots into solar wafers and will start its production during the second quarter of 2011. Its second factory, which grows such ingots utilizing polycrystalline silicon manufactured by M.Setek, will start its production process in the last quarter of 2011.
