SunEdison Canada’s Solar Panels Receive Approval from Ontario Power Authority

SunEdison Canada Origination, an associate company of MEMC Electronic Materials, has declared the receipt of a letter of confirmation from the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) that they are meeting 60% of domestic content requirements to support the solar energy project under the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program.

The letter of confirmation will enable SunEdison to sell its solar panels, produced in Ontario, for use in FIT projects. Earlier in December 2010, MEMC has declared a partnership with SunEdison for manufacturing solar modules in Newmarket, Ontario.

The Ontario FIT program has made it mandatory for the part-taking companies in the solar program to use 60% of the local components in the solar installations. The parts included in the list comprise inverters, solar photovoltaic modules, solar mounting systems, wiring and electrical components used for construction. SunEdison Country Manager for Canada, Jason Gray mentioned that the solar installations would extend job opportunities to the locals.
