Sempra Generation Gets Approval from California Public Utilities Commission to Generate Solar Power

Sempra Generation declared that the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has sanctioned the 20 year power purchase accord it contracted with Pacific Gas & Electric.

The permission will allow Sempra to trade the power generated from its 150 MW Mesquite Solar 1 production facility located in Arizona with Pacific Gas & Electric.

Sempra Generation has plans to develop a 700 MW solar power facility at the Mesquite Solar complex, which is situated about 40 miles west of Phoenix, Arizona. Mesquite Solar 1, the first phase of the solar power plant developed by Sempra Generation is anticipated to commence its construction in June this year and expected to get completed in the early part of 2013.

The first phase when completed will generate enough power to provide electricity to 56,000 normal homes. The entire power project is expected to generate around 300 construction jobs during the peak of activity.
