The Energy Alternatives Division of Cupertino Electric (CEI), a San Jose, California, headquartered company and the Mountain View and Los Altos High School Districts during the Earth Day celebrations have declared that the solar installations planned over the roof tops of parking lots at the Mountain View and Los Altos High School campuses are nearing completion.
The 1.26 MW solar systems were designed and constructed by CEI and the project received funding through local bonds.
The 1.26 MW solar photovoltaic installations will include a 515 kW system at the campus of Los Altos High School and a 755 kW system at the campus of Mountain View High School. The installation of solar modules over the two parking lot canopies of the school districts is anticipated to finish by the middle of May 2011. Kramer Project Development, a company that builds the installation, is completing the project in phases to reduce disturbances to the users of the parking lot.
The solar installation when completed will produce 39,302,704 kWh of clean energy during the 25 year life period of the system meeting nearly 50% power requirement of the school district and will allow the school district to save over $12 million dollars in the form of energy savings and rebates from PG&E.
