KiOR, a renewable fuels company, and Catchlight Energy (CLE), an equal partnership venture between auxiliaries of Chevron and Weyerhaeuser Company, concentrated on supplying liquid transportation fuels from renewable forest-based products, declared that they have contracted a conditional offtake accord.
The accord will allow CLE to buy diesel fuel blendstocks and gasoline from the primary commercial level manufacturing facility of KiOR in Columbus, Mississippi.
Catchlight Energy has agreed to buy the products from KiOR subject to their meeting the product specification standards and on getting the RIN certification as cellulosic biofuels specified under the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard. The companies also have entered into a testing and optimization accord to improve the features of KiOR’s blendstocks to remain compatible with the facilities of Chevron. The production at the Columbus facility is anticipated to commence during the second half of 2012.
KiOR has formulated an exclusive technology to produce renewable crude oil from biomass. It purifies the crude oil further to produce gasoline and diesel blendstocks for use. The output oil reduces greenhouse gas emissions
