Pattern Energy Group declared that it has associated with Samsung Renewable Energy to take over Ontario’s wind power generation projects from Boralex and ACCIONA.
The acquired projects will be merged with South Kent Wind Farm, which is owned by Pattern and Samsung and currently under construction. The 270 MW wind farm is situated in the Regional Municipality of Chatham-Kent and will generate sufficient power to meet the requirements of over 73,000 houses annually.
According to Mike Garland, Pattern Energy’s CEO, the acquired land meets the land requirements for completing the South Kent Wind project. He added that the companies are in the process of acquiring the needed permits for the project and supplying the details of project and related community benefits to the residents and land owners.
Pattern and Samsung have entered into an accord with the Province of Ontario to supply 2500 MW of clean power. The first phase of the accord involves a supply of 100 MW of solar power and 400 MW of wind power. The companies have availed committed transmission capabilities for the initial power generation projects. Under the signed accord, Pattern and Samsung will set up four production facilities in Ontario for building solar and wind related products for use in their installations in Ontario and for exporting to other places in North America, thus allowing the creation of around 1,440 manufacturing jobs.
The partnering companies have concurred to generate more than 500 MW of wind energy by utilizing wind turbine components from the factories located in Tillsonburg and in Windsor.
