Shear Wind, has observed the official opening of its 62.1 MW Glen Dhu Phase 1 wind farm located in a place between Antigonish and Pictou counties in Nova Scotia.
The ceremony was attended by government dignitaries, officials, shareholders, municipal leaders, industry partners and local community members.
The power generated from the Glen Dhu phase 1 wind farm will be enough to allow Nova Scotia Power to achieve nearly 35% of its Renewable Energy Standard (RES) target for the year 2010 and assist the province to achieve its renewable energy targets for 2015. The energy generated from the facility is expected to supply electricity to around 18,000 homes.
Shear Wind figures out that the Glen Dhu Wind Farm has brought in around $40 million in the form of direct and indirect investments to Nova Scotia. Pictou and Antigonish counties have received $22 million as direct investment for the wind projects and the workers who were engaged in the construction have spent nearly $2 million.
Shear Wind, has plans to continue the phase two and three of the wind project to reap the benefit of the steady winds from the Northumberland Strait. It estimates that the phase two and three expansions will bring in an additional 170 MW wind power generation.
