Enel Green Power North America (EGP NA) has commenced the construction work at its Caney River Wind Project (Caney) in Elk County, Kansas.
Trade Wind Energy, who is the partner of EGP NA, has developed the Caney project. It has a power purchase contract with the Authority at Tennessee Valley. This new farm has 111 Vestas wind turbines V-90 - 1.8 MW and the total energy capacity is around 200 MW.
When the wind farm commences operations, it will produce 765 million kWh yearly and supply power to nearly 70,000 homes. This power can eliminate 580,000 tons of Carbon dioxide being emitted from the atmosphere in a year.
Caney has promised to fund for a native environment conservation program, concentrated on the Tallgrass Prairie in Kansas. The fund is anticipated to be used for buying the preservation easements for more than 18,000 acres, 6,000 acres of Tall Grass Prairie needing restoration and wildlife and wind research.
According to Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power, North America has immense potential of renewable power and this wind capacity will bring production of clean energy in Kansas State.
