San Diego Gas &Electric (SDG&E) has signed two 25-year agreements with Soitec Solar Development’s subsidiaries to generate solar energy of 125 megawatts (MW) in total at the service territory of the facility.
Energy will be generated with the concentrix concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) technology incorporated in solar modules fabricated at a new plant to be constructed in the San Diego region.
These new contracts are different from the three agreements signed in April between the two companies. SDG&E has signed totally five different agreements with Soitec, which signifies five separate projects that are able to produce 155 MW of renewable, clean solar energy to light over 60,000 households. These projects will be located nearby SDG&E electric substations in San Diego County.
These agreements will confirm the potential of Soitec's Concentrix CPV technology and produce more power with lower impact on environment and greater efficiency.
Acccording to Andre- Jacques Auberton-Herve, Chairman and CEO of Soitec, the company’s contract with SDG&E has strengthened its decision of constructing a new manufacturing location in San Diego and proves the significance of the U.S. market
The yearly production capacity of Soitec’s new manufacturing unit will be 200 MW and will provide Concentrix CPV technology to all SDG&E’s projects. The facility site will be announced this summer and will be completed within 18 months. California Public Utilities Commission approval is required for these energy contracts.
