The United Parcel Service (UPS) has switched over to the use of biodiesel blends for its vehicles at Louisville, Kentucky hub.
The company has lately erected a biodiesel fuel tank and a refueling station at Worldport, its worldwide air hub located at the Louisville International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky. The facility will permit the fueling operators to blend the required quantity of biodiesel from 5% to 20%.
The fuel tank located at the facility holds around 30,000 gallons of biodiesel and delivers the fuel to around 200 vehicles and other diesel equipment that are used to load and unload packages to and from the planes. The UPS global operation facility located at Worldport occupies a space comparable to 80 football fields. It handles around 416,000 packages every hour delivered by 100 aircrafts in a day.
According to Scott Wicker, Chief Sustainability officer at UPS, the introduced biodiesel project assists the company to lessen its reliance on the use of fossil fuels while contributing to cut down carbon dioxide emissions and resultant air pollution.
