Petra Solar, a technology firm that provides cost-effective solar energy solutions to the electric utility companies, has showcased a national Smart Solar Energy plan at the Jordan - U.S. Business Forum that took place in Amman, Jordan on May 21-22 2011. The program had received support from His Majesty King Abdullah II.
The plan, known as Let Jordan Shine, will provide Smart Solar Energy solutions in Jordan. The program will assist the nation in cutting down its dependence on imported energy with locally generated Smart Solar power via the participation of academia, industry, research and development institutes, legal and regulatory sector and financial institutions.
Smart Solar blends solar with smart grid technology and is installed in association with power companies to produce clean solar energy while maintaining the electric infrastructure energy independent, efficient, and steady. Such a move assists in construction of large level solar facilities in a consistent fashion and saves future expenditures on grid reconstruction.
As part of the Let Jordan Shine plan, power companies will associate with consumers in Jordan to install both consumer and utility owned Smart Solar Energy systems over consumer and utility-owned properties. Petra Solar, in its installation, will utilize products that are produced or assembled locally allowing the country to become a regional center for advanced PV technologies with possible export opportunities to neighboring countries.
As part of its initiatives in the Let Jordan Shine plan, Petra Solar has signed an MOU with Kingdom Electricity Company to develop a 50 MW Solar and Smart Grid project. It has signed another joint accord with Tafilah to install 75 MW Smart Solar power projects across the Tafilah Governorate.
