Nines Photovoltaics, a Dublin based company, has received a grant of €1.2 million from a European Framework Program 7 (FP7) for the development of its novel solar cell production technology. The new technology will simplify the complicated production process of photovoltaic solar cells while increasing the quantity and speed of production.
The technology allows solar cell manufacturers to cut down the level of water usage during the production process and divert such investment for improving other production facilities. The process solution developed by the company utilizes eco-friendly chemicals and a dry production process.
According to Laurent Clochard, CTO of Nines Photovoltaics, the grant presented by a panel of European experts acknowledges the usefulness of the technology. The company has been working on the technology by utilizing its semiconductor process expertise and has made major advancement with the assistance of its German partners.
The FP7 grant will allow Nines Photovoltaics to work together with a group of European partners, research bodies and SMEs with exclusive skills and domain knowledge to bring in further improvements to the technology for the worldwide market.
