NJR Clean Energy Ventures (NJRCV), an ancillary of New Jersey Resources, and the McGraw-Hill have declared their plans to construct a 14.1 MW net-metered solar power over the East Windsor, New Jersey-based campus of McGraw-Hill.
The proposed project will meet the power requirements of McGraw-Hill’s data center and its offices in East Windsor and will considerably cut down its use of electricity from other energy sources.
NJRCEV will provide $60 million as investment to develop and deploy the advanced solar system over 50-acres of land owned by McGraw-Hill. The land is close to the company’s 180,000 square foot data center and other office buildings. The ground mounted solar installation will be completed by Advanced Solar Products, a Flemington, New Jersey-based company, in association with New York-based MVM Advisors.
The eco-friendly ballasted racking system planned for the installation does not require deep ground penetrations. McGraw-Hill is also planning to grow trees in around 25 acres of land that will surround the solar array. The installation is planned in two phases; the first phase will become functional in December 201, while the second phase will be completed in March 2012.
The solar system will generate around 18 million kWh of clean energy every year and will offset around 12,687 metric tons of CO2, which can be equated to removing CO2 discharges from around 2,488 cars. The solar project is anticipated to generate around 294 jobs.
The $60 million investment provided by NJRVEV is eligible for a federal investment tax credit of 30%. The power generated will be entitled to receive Solar Renewable Energy Certificates, which can be sold to New Jersey entities to address their power needs.
