GE declared that it has contracted an accord with Cong Ly, a Vietnam-based wind power developing company, to supply 10 numbers of 1.6-82.5 wind turbines for the phase one of the proposed Bac Lieu Wind Farm.
GE will also provide operations and maintenance services for the wind farm which is designed to generate 16 MW power. Cong Ly, has unveiled its plans to generate 120 MW in phase two of the project to tide over the present power generation problems in the country.
The Bac Lieu wind project is located around 200 km southwest of Ho Chi Minh City and happens to be the first ever wind project in the Mekong Delta. The wind farm is designed to defend the ecology of the region which produces good quantity of rice and known for its seafood exports.
The GE 1.6 wind turbine selected for the project incorporates an 82.5 meter height rotor which is ideal for class III type of wind locations such as Bac Lieu site. The GE 1.6-82.5 is one among the widely used MW power range wind turbines and GE has installed over 16,000 such turbines all over the world.
GE has been active in Vietnam since 1960 and provided technical support for a range of power production projects all over the country. The company has installed over 2,000 MW of power generating facilities and supplies equipment to meet nearly 18% of Vietnam’s power production capability. The company has established a new wind turbine components production facility close to the seaport city of Hai Phong in 2009. The factory shipped its first consignment of products in 2010.
