Ingersoll-Rand, a company that supports in making efficient, comfortable and safe surroundings, declared that it has granted $150,000 to Purdue University to support its participation in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011.
The entry proposed by the University for Solar Decathlon 2011 will demonstrate how latest solar technology can assist in developing an eco- friendly home. The entry of Purdue is partly supported by Ingersoll Rand Foundation and Ingersoll Rand Residential Solutions.
The Solar Decathlon will receive participation from around 20 collegiate teams from all over the world. The teams will construct and control the energy efficient and cost- effective solar houses with an attractive look. The program is designed to bring-in awareness to the students and to the general public about the options available in building eco-friendly houses. The house currently being built at the campus of Purdue will be transported to Washington in time to assist demonstration in the decathlon event to be held at Washington DC located National Mall, from Sept 23 to Oct 2.
Ingersoll Rand in addition to providing financial grant and the required engineering advice needed for the construction of the home has provided a variety of equipment and products from its folder such air-conditioning, ventilating and heating products including its valued and newly designed Trane Hyperion air handler and efficient Trane XL20i heat pump. The house construction will also incorporate the Trane CleanEffects air filtering system and an energy retrieval ventilator. During the construction process, the team will utilize the oil-lubricated Twin-stack reciprocating air compressor provided by Ingersoll Rand to supply power to the tools used during building of the house.
