Hickam Communities and SolarCity, an all included solar service provider in Hawaii, have declared that the solar installation currently in progress at the community is anticipated to be one among the biggest solar installations at the island and one of the biggest solar power utilizing communities in the US. Lend Lease, a property solution providing company owns and manages the Hickam Communities.
SolarCity is planning to complete solar installations over around 600 rooftops of Hickam Communities homes that were selected for suitability to receive adequate solar intensity and to install solar panels. The 4 MW installation when completed will generate over 5.6 million kWh of electric power every year, which is sufficient to power 2,000 houses located at the base. The power generated from the facility can be equated to keeping around 23,000 cars from plying on the roads for a year. During the two year period of construction, the project will create over 55 clean energy job positions.
The solar project while contributing to eco-friendly environment in the island will also assist the Air Force to achieve the 25% renewable energy use target stipulated by the Department of Defense by the year 2025.
SolarCity having entered a 20 year power purchase accord will provide the required engineering and installation services and maintain the installed solar systems, which will be linked to the Hawaiian Electric Company.
