Chevrolet, a producer of Volt electric vehicle, which provides electric powered driving for 35 mi and an extra 344 mi of stretched cover by utilizing a gas-powered onboard generator, has declared its intentions to erect solar powered electric charging facilities at the locations of Volt dealers in North America.
The green project proposal of the company will produce enough power to charge 12 vehicles fully every day and extra power produced will supplement the power requirements of the dealer.
Each such installed solar canopy will generate enough power to make around 4,500 charges per vehicle every year. The Chevy Green Zone Initiative is an ingredient in the recent statement of GM Venture to induct $7.5 million in Sunlogics, a company engaged in solar panel production and development. The company will provide its panels and install them at the charging stations of the dealers. Al Serra Chevrolet and American Chevrolet have associated with Sunlogics for completing the Green Zone installations. Each of the Green canopies will generate enough power to supply two to three homes every year or meet nearly 25% power consumption of the dealership. In other words the initiative saves a lot of grid power.
According to Joe Serra, Serra Automotive’s President, the installation of the solar canopy offers a win-win solution. While it allows the company to cut down its functional costs it also assists the environment in bringing down the carbon foot print.
Dave Halvorson, American Chevrolet in Modesto’s President stated that the program does not need any capital investment from the dealership. He added that while the production of solar power increases the dependence of the company on renewable energy, the Green Zone billboard depicts the commitment of the company in improving the environment.
