Brookhaven, a municipality in the State of New York has announced the commencement of a new rewards-for-recycling program. The program announcement was done along with environmentalists, officials from Brookhaven, spokesmen from Recyclebank, town supervisor, councilmen and the occupants in Blue Point, N.Y.
Recyclebank, a New York City-based auxiliary of Recycle Awards will honor the people for their every-day eco-friendly activities such as recycling in the form of rebates and deals from a number of national and local businesses.
Brookhaven will earn the distinction of the first municipality in the New York State to take such an initiative when it launches the program on Wednesday August 3, 2011. The program will join over 300 communities from all over the USA and the UK to partner in the Recyclebank program to support and cheer residents and allow them to adopt green practices.
The program formulated in the lines of the frequent flyer program will enable the residents to earn green points and use the points to trade at the website of Recyclebank for deals and discount advantages from national and local businesses.
The program joined by 50 local business companies has enrolled hundreds of reward partners at national level and the list includes Dick's Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Unilever, Staples, Nestle Purnia, McDonalds, Macy’s , Coca-Cola, AVEENO and Ziploc. The program allows members to collect more points easily and enables them to redeem them immediately.
The program will also assist the Town Municipality to improve its finance through the sale of recyclables and save disposal costs.
