Eurus and NRG Begin Commercial Operations to Generate Solar Energy

A subsidiary of Tokyo-based Eurus Energy, Eurus Energy America in collaboration with NRG Solar, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, has started commercial operations at the Avenal Solar Generating Facility with a capacity of 45 MG. This is the biggest facility in California generating solar photovoltaic (PV) energy.

The Avenal facility comprises three solar projects such as Sand Drag, Sun City, and Avenal Park that generates sufficient clean and renewable power capable of fulfilling the requirements of 36,000 houses as well as provides opportunity for 200 new employments in a low economic region. The Kings County’s facility was established by Eurus, but is jointly owned by NRG and Eurus. Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has signed a 20-year agreement to sell the power generated in this facility.

Tom Doyle, President at the Solar and West Region of NRG, stated that NRG started to expand in solar power only two years before by establishing the biggest PV plant in California during that period and again, the company has commenced the same operations at Avenal. The company is pleased to collaborate with Eurus in advancing the solar power development in California to achieve the state’s determined goals of generating renewable energy, he added.

Mark E. Anderson, Eurus Energy Americas’ CEO and President, stated that the company is dedicated in bringing online the well-situated and highly feasible projects on renewable energy in a sincere and appropriate manner. The company’s potential to invest money and create job opportunities in California as well as allow the state to attain a clean energy enriched economy is because of the united efforts of several others including PG&E, the City of Avenal, and Kings Country, he added.
