Chevron Energy Solutions and Bellevue Union School District have announced that they have completed the installation of a 618 kW solar system.
The solar project is expected to bring in a savings of over $3.3 million to the district during the life time of the project. In the initial five years, the district can save over $750,000. The solar power system is currently deployed in four elementary schools and brings down the electricity expenses of the district by over 80%. This reduction in power purchase in turn reduces the yearly carbon emissions of the district by 407 t, which is equal to the carbon removed by a pine forest of 87 acres.
Chevron has designed, developed and built the solar project and will be operating the system and maintaining its performance for the next 10 years. Tony Roehrick, Superintendent of the Bellevue Union School District, said that the Union is pleased to have this solar system in Sonoma County and that this project will make their schools an eco-friendly place while helping the students learn about the significance of clean energy. Jim Davis, President of Chevron Energy Solutions, said that Chevron is a specialist in developing solar and other renewable energy systems for educational institutions and added that with this Bellevue Union project, the district is showing its commitment towards sustainability in the long-term.
A celebration event has been planned at Taylor Mountain School situated in Santa Rosa, California to mark the completion of the solar project. District representatives, students, local business and government officials will take part in the celebration.
