First Wind, a wind energy company based at Boston, declared that it has chosen GE to provide maintenance services for all its 264 GE wind turbines located at eight sites all over the USA.
The comprehensive service accord contracted for a period of eight years elaborates on its present contracts with GE and it is the first ever contract of First Wind signed with GE to cover the whole fleet of its wind turbines.
The present accord signed by First Wind with GE includes a total maintenance package in addition to on-site support, supplying of parts and operations. The signed accord will enable First Wind to take advantage of the latest technical offerings from GE including that of WindBOOST especially formulated to improve the production of a wind turbine and Winter Ice Operations Mode, which will enable wind turbines to recapture their production capability even in colder weather conditions. Also the full service accord on the wind turbine drive trains will improve the reliability and performance of the wind turbines. GE will offer an availability assurance at the wind site locations of First Wind such as Hawaii, Utah and Maine. The GE 1.5 MW wind turbine deployed at the sites is one among the widely utilized wind turbines and the company has installed over 15,000 units all over the world.
