Island Pacific Energy declared that it has been one among the three companies chosen for the biggest ever government solar energy contract valued around $500 million in the State of Hawaii.
The solar PV modules will be erected at the military facilities all over the state of Hawaii for the use of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). Island Pacific Energy happens to be the only company from Hawaii to get involved in the multiple contract award and the other two companies that received the award include Mountain View located Photon Finance and Pacific Energy Solutions, a segment of ECC Burlingame, California.
The company will erect the solar power production systems over vacant lands, parking shade facilities and over roofs. The NAVFAC facilities will buy the power generated from the installations to substitute its present power usage without making any investment to own, build or upkeep the solar installations. The proposed installations at the Oahu facilities include the Army Reserve Center on Maui, the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Naval Magazine West Loch, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, the Asia Pacific Center for Strategic Studies, Fort DeRussy, Tripler Army Medical Center, Wheeler Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The contract is anticipated to take five years to complete to get finished in 2016 August.
According to Joseph Saturnia, President of Island Pacific Energy, the present accord will be the biggest ever solar PV power production facilities in Hawaii. He added that as a locally positioned company, the present contract will enable the company to have more local jobs while allowing the earned dollars to rotate within the local economy.
