Solar3D, a company, which discovered the three-dimensional solar cell know-how to improve and maximize the power conversion efficiency of solar cells, declared that it has finished the prototype design for its new solar cell.
The company getting ideas from the light management procedures utilized in fiber optic devices has developed the new three-dimensional design for its solar cell. The three-dimensional cell design entraps the sunlight within its micro-photovoltaic arrangements where the entrapped photons bounce till their conversion into electrons.
The company with the intention of developing a working prototype of the design at the end of 2011 has achieved and declared a number of landmarks such as the finish of each design parts such as the required optical element, the three-dimensional and PV arrangement and changes in the design to facilitate mass production. The company is making timely and consistent progress. The management of Solar3D believes that the novel cell design with an improved level of power conversion efficiency will bring down the cost of production.
According to Jim Nelson, Solar3D’s CEO, the conclusion of the prototype design is an important landmark for the company to achieve its intention of bringing out a next generation solar cell. He explained that the new cell is the result of his team’s concerted effort on research, formulation and reproduction of various designs. He expressed confidence that the new cell when developed fully will bring in total changes in the solar industry and in the views of the consumers.
