The SunPower Foundation has declared that it has donated its SunPower solar photovoltaic (PV) solar panels for use in mobile units to Greenpeace Africa.
The solar panels will be erected by 30 local youths during a two week solar training course organized by Greenpeace during September in Durban, South Africa. The youths will study about solar photovoltaic and other types of renewable energy technologies besides completing the lessons that cover social entrepreneurship and Energy (R)evolution report of Greenpeace.
The four solar modules once installed will produce enough renewable energy to power two mobile solar showcase units owned by Greenpeace Africa, which will be showcased at the 17th sitting of the Conference of Parties (COP 17) to discuss the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNGCCC), to be held from November 28th to December 9th 2011, in Durban, South Africa. Each mobile solar unit will make use of the installed solar power for using the multi-media technology devices such as sound systems, laptops and televisions to propagate the growing need to deploy and utilize renewable energy solutions, while the employees of Greenpeace will share their awareness and practical experience gained during solar PV installations.
To further foster its affiliation with Greenpeace, SunPower Foundation has declared its plans to energize the headquarters of Greenpeace Africa at Johannesburg with SunPower rooftop solar systems in the latter part of this year.
