Canadian Solar declared that it has met the solar module requirements in the construction of a solar complex located in southern Brandenburg, Germany.
The two companies GP JOULE and saferay, partners in the project have ordered a total of 636,000 solar modules to meet the 148 MW power generation out of the total 166 MW planned. saferay has put into operation around 78 MW of the project and it was opened on September 24th by the Prime Minister, Matthias Platzeck at Senftenberg, the premises of II/III solar power plant. The green and clean energy produced by the plant is sufficient to meet the power supply requirements of around 50,000 households.
The Senftenberg II/III system was constructed in a period of three months over 200 ha of land where the Meuro surface mining plant existed before. Unlimited Energy was engaged in the solar park development over a property belonging to Agrargenossenschaft Grossraeschen, which has enough space for installing around 330,000 crystalline solar modules. The company in addition to getting the required state permissions for the project has also taken efforts to protect the ecology while designing the solar plant. The project completed with an investment of €150 million has received funding from three German banks. saferay possesses two thirds of the share in the operations and investments of the solar complex.
Dr. Shawn Qu, Canadian Solar’s Chairman and CEO stated that the project has brought in benefits to the local economy and contributed to the economic development in the form of construction and operation contracts given to the local companies.
