A new contract awarded by officials enabled the expansion of the recycling program of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing by incorporating new features and offering additional colored dumpsters and bins across the wing.
The 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron’s Environmental Program Manager, Curt Williams stated that the new features of the program are the addition of glass recovery and improvement of the rate of return on revenues of recyclable items from 40% to 60%. The contract will also extend the coverage area to include the complete wing and incorporate the removal of refuse, harmful wastes, recyclables and building debris in a single contract, Williams said.
Williams further said the new program assures the availability of collection bins nearby all shops, offices and dormitories to facilitate the members of the 380th AEW to dispose things properly. Personnel can see additional tan dumpsters for disposing flattened cardboard, white collection dumpsters for the disposal of shredded white paper and red recycling bins to collect glass bottles, he added.
The orange color dumpsters across the base will still be utilized for collecting building wastes and dark blue dumpsters for trash. Office chiefs, shop chiefs and bay chief will still be in-charge of hiring workers for clearing the bins and for the disposal of bagged items in the exact colored dumpsters and bins.
Around 60% of the sales will be used as non-appropriated fund for recreation, welfare and morale activities, Williams added. The recycling program helps separating recyclable items, marketing them to vendors who recycle waste, and investing the money into beneficial programs, he concluded.
