Suntricity Power, a commercial and residential solar energy design, installation and integration company, has added half megawatt of residential solar installations so far in 2011. The company’s rapid growth was due to a rise in Delaware Energy Efficiency projects and aggressive solar initiatives in Pennsylvania.
Suntricity Power has installed 500kW of Residential Solar Energy Systems in the Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania tri state area. The projects were installed over three states and required that 50 different municipalities worked together on permitting as well as engineering. Mark Hald from Suntricity Power reported that since they undertook a large number of residential installations across the company’s service area, it was truly an achievement. He also said that there has to be state-wide combined installation practices to get rid of the obstacles with the process.
James Bowler, Suntricity’s Sr. Field Manager, stated that the company has witnessed a declining in residential solar acquisitions, and by studying the matter, the company has made changes to stand with the new market. He also added that the company has recently shifted from sub contracting to in-house installations.
In addition to the lack of combined installation practices, there are still hindrances in the solar program that survive in the Pennsylvania solar market. Pennsylvania is trying its best to stabilize and improve the SREC market with its HB1580. The bill, which has bipartisan support, must move through with a little effort and help in introducing stabilized pricing and transparency in the SREC markets. This can be fulfilled by plugging the state SREC margins for systems set up after January 1, 2012 and building the SREC prospects for utility companies in the next three years.
