GloPak has declared the installation of a solar power system, which can minimize the energy consumption and also the environmental impact of its New Jersey manufacturing plant in South Plainfield. The installation includes 3,454 solar panels that are mounted to the ground and roof of the company’s South Plainfield plant.
The mounted solar panels will deliver energy of 1 MW, which ensures electricity savings of above $180,000 annually. The reduction in energy will reduce the company’s dependency on the energy grid and control pollution in the New Jersey state. The installed solar panels will minimize the emission of CO2 by 7,000 t and the environmental impact of the plant. The operations of the ground mounted solar panel system will start in early 2012.
Harold Martin, the company’s CEO, stated that the solar power project allows the company to build sustainable energy products and to maintain the product’s quality to the customers. Martin said that since the company strives for a green environment, the company’s new solar facility will considerably minimise the carbon footprint, which is around 7,000 t of the CO2 emission annually.
Apart from the installation of solar panels, the company also employs programs for recycling, lighting systems for saving energy and biodiesel to lower their environmental impact. In December 2010, the company installed a sophisticated photovoltaic system with the help of the Solar Center located at Rockaway.
Gerry Heimbuch, Commercial projects’ Vice President at The Solar Center, stated that the center is excited to work with GloPak on this plant, which creates a standard for corporate environmental stewardship in New Jersey. Heimbuch expressed that the center is proud of being selected by GloPak and this project is the biggest green initiative in the manufacturing division at New Jersey.
