Soitec, a manufacturer of innovative semiconductor materials for energy and electronics industries, has added a new Plug&Sun product to its portfolio of concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) products. The CPV mini-tracker is the first, portable, stand-alone minitracker that has been designed for applications in remote areas.
The Plug&Sun system is an eco-friendly, mobile power-generating station that is suitable for highly sunny regions, which do not have any power grid or reliable grid connections. The power station can tolerate high temperatures and has the durability that allows it to be used in remote areas. It has high energy efficiency, requires low maintenance and reduces dependency on fuel supplies. The system can be used as a replacement or as a supplement for existing electrification solutions.
The system consists of 3 m2 of efficient modules. The product can be easily installed and it utilizes a two-axis tracker for generating nearly 2.3 kWp of electricity. It has an efficiency of about 30% and can power different types of electrical devices due to its compatibility with various electrical standards.
The solution can be easily transported. It can be used to power remote, isolated villages and hospitals and schools. The president and CEO of Soitec, André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé, stated that a set of three Plug&Sun mini-trackers, which have the capacity to generate 12 kW/day can be set up in a couple of hours. A village approximately requires 12 kW/day of power.
