Seashore Solar Development, based in New Jersey, has given an engineering, procurement and construction contract to SPI Solar, which is a main developer of vertically integrated photovoltaic solar products.
As per the terms of the contract, a solar energy facility (SEF) will be mounted on ground and will have a capacity of 11.3 MW. It will be designed and constructed by SPI and will supply electricity, produced from solar energy, to the power grid of South New Jersey.
The SEF will help in the most aggressive Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS) of New Jersey. Around 200 local jobs will be created by means of this solar project during the SEF construction, and will also support the state in meeting its RPS goal. The company has planned to start the construction of SEF in the Q3 of 2012, after Seashore Solar closes the project financing.
Seashore Solar’s Managing Member, Matt Feinstone commented that the company is expecting to work with SPI Solar on this significant solar project. He added that this solar project will be helpful in decreasing the reliance on electricity produced from fossil fuel, by offsetting it with sustainable and green solar photovoltaic power. Creating local jobs is an added advantage.
According to Stephen Kircher, SPI’s Chief Executive Officer, this project will enable the company to leverage its talents in designing and constructing an outstanding facility to generate solar energy in one of the most aggressive solar markets in the US. The company is looking forward to start the SEF construction and work with Seashore Solar, Kircher said.
