Exelon Wind, a division of Exelon Power, has announced that it has completed its Michigan Wind 2 Project. The project is a 90 MW wind project consisting of 50 turbines. It is also the company’s first wind project for commercial purposes and is located in Minden City, Michigan.
Exelon Wind has an operational wind project located in the counties of northern Sanilac and Huron. The Michigan Wind 1 Project consists of 46 turbines. The Michigan Wind 2 Project is located in the southeastern direction of the first project. Both the projects together bring up the total wind power generation of Exelon Wind to 212 MW in Michigan. And, the company maintains its lead in wind power generation in the state in terms of megawatts.
For the local area, the Michigan Wind 2 Project will yield more than $12 million as revenue through tax payments over a period of 20 years. Exelon Power’s VP of Wind Energy, David Drescher, stated that the clean energy generated from the Wind 2 Project will aid the State of Michigan to attain its goals for renewable energy. The power generated will benefit the local community through tax payments, while supplying power to more than 30,000 residences, he added.
Jackson-based Consumers Energy has entered into a purchase agreement with the company for purchasing the renewable energy generated at Michigan Wind 2 for 20 years.
